Richard Bullock (Ph.D., University of Virginia) is emeritus professor of English at Wright State University, where he directed the writing programs for twenty-eight years and designed the university's writing across the curriculum program and Introduction to College Writing Workshop. In 2012, he was awarded the Trustees' Award for Faculty Excellence, Wright State's highest honor. In addition to The Norton Field Guide to Writing, he is a coauthor of The Little Seagull Handbook.Michal Brody is a linguist, independent scholar, and lecturer. She was a founding faculty member of the Universidad de Oriente in Yucatán, Mexico, and teaches now at Sonoma State University and San Francisco State University. Her scholarly work centers on language pedagogy and politics in the United States and Mexico. She’s the author (with Keith Walters) of What’s Language Got to Do with It? and coauthor (with Richard Bullock and Francine Weinberg) of The Little Seagull Handbook, and the editor of the Everyone’s an Author Tumblr site and They Say / I Blog.Francine Weinberg (M.Ed, Teachers College, Columbia University) is an author and editor who has worked for more than thirty years on college and high school English textbooks. Most handbooks include chapters on various general writing topics (e.g., the writing process or the elements of an argument), but few cover the specific kinds of writing students are assigned to do. The Little Seagull has chapters on reports, analyses, and all the other genres that college students are most often assigned. And because it's so small, so easy to use, and so affordable, it's proven to be a popular alternative to larger (and much more costly) handbooks. The third edition adds a new section on editing the errors that matter―and the option to include free access to InQuizitive for Writers, which provides practice in editing the same errors.InQuizitive access code not included!!!!!! Purchased this for my daughter. She was suppose to receive an access code (required by professor) to use the InQuizitive app. Product page reads "and the option to include free access to InQuizitive for Writers, which provides practice in editing the same errors." There is NO option to select this. She has already removed shrink wrap, so according to sticker she cannot return it. No place to plug in receipt info at InQ. Have contacted InQ site to remedy the issue. It costs $15 to sign up, not much, but cryptic information on product page. Will update my review once I learn any details. See update below.Good little book but missing online subscription The product details state "The third edition adds a new section on editing the errors that matter―and the option to include free access to InQuizitive for Writers, which provides practice in editing the same errors.” but nowhere in the book or on Amazon was there the option to include the free access to InQuizitive. It’s only $15 to purchase but annoying when the book makes it seem like it’s going to be included. Kinda feel like I’ve been ripped off because of that. The book is necessary for a couple of classes but after a quick glance looks like it will be a really useful book for me.Helping to stop Corp. America's destruction of the English language! I produce corporate training for a Fortune 10 company and I use this handbook all the time! It's very common in Corporate America for commonly misused terms, punctuation, and capitalization to become normal and accepted. That's where it becomes difficult to pick out incorrect usage. If incorrect usage isn't corrected and published, it can be embarrassing.Unsure when to use a comma? Want to figure out what a semi-colon actually is? Want to tell that co-worker that their use of bold text is inappropriate and ruining a beautiful and complicated language? Buy this handbook!This handbook helps me proofread and edit materials without the shadow of a doubt!
