The importance of restful sleep examined in excellent book. Sleep isn't just about rest. It's about the body repairing itself, doing maintenance so to speak. Unfortunately, what has been discovered over time (and discussed in this book) is that, if you lose sleep, taking a nap, while it takes the edge off, it doesn't replace the sleep lost during the night. Our ability to fight disease (including cancer) and obesity may be directly tied to not getting enough restful sleep. Pills don't help either. Yes, they knock you out and make it easier to fall asleep but they lack the restorative power of natural sleep and, in fact, some sleeping pills can increase your risk of cancer.All of this is revealed in this excellent book that focuses on the role of sleep for humans (and, no doubt, also for animals as well). Our sleep cycle is essential to our health and breaking it up or altering it drastically, works against us and makes us less sharp."Why We Sleep" does a fine job of addressing these issues and explaining the research that has discovered the role of sleep and why it remains an important part of our health. Keep in mind that this book doesn't provide much in the way of solutions for patients beyond general recommendations for "sleep hygiene" as solving the problem really should be done by local sleep physicians (and each individual will have possible different solutions).One of the most important books I've ever read I'm about 75 pages into this book and it is already one of the most fascinating, important, and engaging books I've ever read. And it's funny, too, which was unexpected. This should be required reading by EVERYONE. After you read this book, I can't imagine how you could not prioritize getting an 8-hour night of sleep every night. Some astounding facts:-Routinely sleeping less than 6 or 7 hours a night increases your risk of cancer by 50%.-Every species every studied, preceding the emergence of vertebrates even, sleeps. Some species can sleep with only half their brain (!!). Sleep is an incredibly risky thing for an animal to do because you are completely vulnerable to predators when you sleep. But sleep is THAT important that it was preserved by evolution.-After even one night of less than 5 hours of sleep, natural killer cells (which kill cancer cells that appear in your body EVERY DAY) drop by 70%. I've already made several smoothies and can't believe how full they actually keep me!Love This Book This book is great. I have been eating how the book describes for about a week. I have truly started to feel better. My gut is happy as well as my blood pressure. I need to lose a lot of weight, but my biggest concern is to get healthy. But, with that said, I have lost 5 pounds this week. Thank you for a great book.Nothing new here I thought the book was well written and the author obviously has an extensive background in food science. In a nutshell - her eating plan is high protein, low carb, moderate fat. No gluten, no dairy, no sugar, no soy, no processed food. Her philosophy is that in order to keep blood sugar levels stable throughout the day, she recommendeds 3 meals per day and ideally no snacks. Each meal contains a "Fab Four" ingredient- protein, fat, fiber and greens. Fruit is limited to 1/4-1/2 cup of berries per day. All other fruits may be eaten once or twice a week. - again only a very small portion of 1/2 cup or less. Grains are limited to gluten free and only 1/4 - 1/2 cup per day at most. Breakfast is essentially a protein shake made with water or nut milk with the addition of 1-2 Tbsps of fat (MCT oil, coconut oil, nuts or avocado), and 1-2 Tbsps of fiber (chia seeds, flax, avocado), and a handful of greens such as spinach.Will you lose weight, feel good, and be healthy eating like this? Yes - most likely! However, it is pretty restrictive and requires a lot of discipline.

Dose express words in meaning along with work sheets.Enjoyable and well done. I was very surprised when I received this book in the mail. For the reasonable price that I paid, I expected a thin, cheap workbook. However, it is lengthy and the cover of the book is a velvet texture--a great hand feel. I purchased this for my fifth grader to work on intermittently as a supplement to his homeschool curricula. The worksheets are very accessible and I appreciate the "extras" such as etymology etc. I personally would love to see an integration into the vocabulary builder app in which one could input the completed lesson numbers and build a customized quiz to aid in retention. Either way, great product to supplement a fantastic web/app presence and study tool. It is a fun supplement for our family.

This will be my next Book Club’s choice! Wow! What a great book! Great woman! I am buying multiple copies to share with my friends. Strong words! Powerful book!3.5/5 stars 3.5/5 stars — a rating given solely for the quality of the book. This does not reflect my opinion about Kamala Harris, who I deeply respect and admire.I felt that this was clearly a campaign book — a book that was meant to hammer in Harris’ past accomplishments and policy/issue positions in light of her (likely) bid for presidency. And while learning about these things was interesting, I felt that it caused the book to lose the quality it could have had. Some ideas that could have resonated came off as being clichés and tried too hard to be meaningful metaphors, and I felt as though many of Kamala’s points and ideas read like laundry lists — bullet points that she needed to get down to convince us that she should be our president in 2020.And again, I deeply respect and admire Senator Harris, but the quality of this book merited a 3.5 star ratin.The Story of a Senator Senator Kamala Harris has an important story to tell about her own upbringing and her very successful career. There is a reason that she is so beloved by the people who know her as well as those who work with her. She conveys her thoughtfulness and bright vision while telling her story and I think that most civically minded people will enjoy the read. Thanks!
